Job Summary
Cost Engineer is part of the project management team and is responsible to monitor and control the project cost performance.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Budget Preparation
• Receive budget calculations sheets from tender along with supporting documents and basis of assumptions
• Read and review the contractual SOW and link to the budget allowances
• Discuss and agree with PM for the project cost management plan.
• Discuss and agree with PM for the cost breakdown and required reports to prepare CBS
2. Cost monitoring.
• Receive and allocate issued materials from stores
• Receive and allocate subcontractor invoice data from central cost engineer.
• Receive and allocate actual cost GL sheet from financial department
• Prepare monthly material consumption and wastage
• Prepare monthly AC and match it with GL
• Prepare monthly EV based on the works calculated in the AC
• Preparing cost analysis for gains and losses
3. Cost control.
• Review and approve subcontractors’ VO’s
• Coordinate with PM for cost saving strategies
4. Budget update
• Coordinate with QS to receive updated quantities and measurements
• Coordinate with QS to receive client VO’s
• Review client invoice to check for contractual obligations
• Update the current budget in the cost report format
5. Forecasting
• Coordinate with QS to receive updated quantities and measurements
• Coordinate with QS to receive client VO’s
• Discuss and agree with PM for future productivity
6. Reporting
• Prepare monthly cost report for direct items
• Prepare project-specific cost reports
• Preparing narrative report for major cost issues
• Report lessons learned to Tender department
• Prepare cost calculations scenarios for decision making
Qualifications & Skills
• Education: Bachelor’s degree Engineering.
• Certification: preferred: PMP or CCP.
• Years of Experience: 1 : 4 years of experience for junior and 5 : 7 for senior, preferably in construction site or technical office and professional studies in project management or cost engineering.
• Software: Basic Excel.
• Skills: Analytical thinking, Negotiation skills , Presentation skills, active listening, well planned and proactive personality
